About Me

Hi! I'm Lisa. I live in Scotland and I'm a 29 year old stay at home mum to beautiful 'Poppet' born in January 2011, and her equally beautiful little sister 'Little' born in September 2012 (n.b, not their real names!).

I feel so unbelievably lucky to get to spend all day everyday with my little girls and watch them play and develop into little people. I really want to make the most of my time with them as I know it will pass so quickly. We can have good days and bad days but I wouldn't miss a minute of it and I find the girls are teaching me so much, about patience, understanding and helping me see the world through their eyes. Every day they do or say something that makes me laugh and/or want to squeeze them until they explode (not actually).

I'm starting this blog so that I can document our tentative explorations into play and as an incentive for me to keep thinking of imaginative ways to encourage them to learn through play. I also want to document the day to day things that make life with little ones so special. I find it's very easy for the days to pass in a blur of chores, paperwork, and errands and think its important to spend some one on one quality time with them, hopefully this will encourage me to do so. I have tried, numerous times, to start diaries, and they always end up discarded after a few months, so I am hopeful that the public nature of a blog will encourage me on more! And it would be lovely to have something to look back on when they are older, to say 'look, that's what we used to do together when you were little!'. I want them to have a really lovely childhood and have fond memories of the time they spent at home with mama.

I'm enjoying learning everything I can at the moment about play and its importance and have found some really great resources online. All the terms and theory are still all new to me but I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it all in the coming weeks, months and years ahead!

I love reading and books and making lists. I like organising and things having a place,  I like making porridge on the hob and I love gardening (or trying to - mainly I like the buying of new packets of seeds and the promise of all that is to come - more often than not by end of summer things have got out of control), I love spending time in my greenhouse - I like the warmth and the pots and the compost and the feeling of being in your own little world. I love the smell of tomato plants. I love tea. In nice cups. I hate tights, and itchy wool and public speaking. I like rainy days, especially thunderstorms, Lush stuff, and mismatched cushions. I like farmers markets, making my own bread,  getting a weekly vegetable box, and movie nights. I love my husband (of course!) and our two beautiful babies that I can't quite believe are ours.

Hi Lisa. Loving your blog - your ideas are great and the girls are such cuties. The pictures of Little staring at herself in the mirror made me smile today. Jo xxx
